As a startup photographer, finding models who share your passion for nude photography can be a real challenge. Trust me, I’ve been there!
So, where do you start?
Assuming you’re genuinely interested in nude photography and have a burning artistic vision, you’re already off to a great start. Now, let me share some tried and tested approaches that have worked for me (and some that haven’t) in finding models for nude photography.

Create Your Own Website
To kick off your search for talent in the world of nude photography, I highly recommend setting up your own personal website. Even if you don’t have any nude photos to showcase right away, having an online presence will allow you to reach a wider audience and potential models. You can display your skills with other photography genres, like architecture or nature, to demonstrate your expertise.
Pro tip: Invest a little money in purchasing your own domain name and reliable hosting. Trust me, it’s worth it!
Pro tip: Create business cards with your website address. Very handy!

Explore Online Portfolios
If you don’t already have a website, there are countless modeling websites where you can create an online portfolio. This will help you establish an online presence and connect with models who are looking for photographers to collaborate with. While some may initially shy away from nude photography, you may find a few who appreciate the beauty of the human form and are willing to work with you.
Pro tip: Hire an experienced professional Nude model from the modeling websites. Be honest with your level of experience and they can share their knowledge and tips & tricks. If you are openminded you will learn a lot in the process of getting your first nude images.
Here are my go-to modeling sites:
– Model Mayhem: A trendy and popular site with a vast community of photographers and models. The forum boards are a treasure trove of helpful tips for photographers of all levels.
– Purple Port: One of the go-to sites for photographers and models in Europe. Though it requires a fee for photographers, it’s well-regarded and a great place to start.
– Don’t forget social media like Instagram and Facebook: I follow models I want to work with, and often get messages when the models are traveling to my area (Malmö/Copenhagen).
Fair warning: While these sites can be handy, there’s a catch. Some “internet models” on these platforms lack genuine commitment and may not follow through with shoots. So proceed with caution and see if this avenue works for you.
Pro tip: On these sites and in social media experienced nude photographers often advertise dates for nude photography workshops. This is an excellent way to learn the skills to bring your vision to life, and in addition meet with other photographers and models.

Tap into the University Scene
Colleges and universities are a hidden treasure trove for nude photography models, especially within dance and art. Many students are looking for ways to earn extra cash. Post your edgy-but-not-explicit prints on campus bulletin boards along with your business card, or create a sheet with your artistic vision and website link to attract interested students.
Be Bold and Approach Potential Models
If you’re feeling brave, directly approaching potential models at malls, clubs, or gyms can pay off. Arm yourself with a small portfolio of your work and plenty of business cards. Your professionalism and portfolio will put any concerns about legitimacy to rest.
If the direct approach isn’t your style, leave potential models with a card that includes your website and a message expressing interest in their look. While this approach may have a lower success rate, it’s worth a shot.

Turn to the Art Class Scene
Art classes are a goldmine for finding models. Many everyday men and woman who pose for drawings may be open to being photographed as well. Don’t be afraid to post ads in these classes or approach potential models directly.
No matter which method you choose, remember to always be professional and respectful. And of course, having examples of your work readily available is essential.
Good luck, my fellow photographer!
